A Cursor alternative for Unreal Engine work
Dola is not a Cursor clone. It is an Unreal-native desktop and plugin teammate. Use this page if you already live in Cursor and want to know what Dola adds — and what it does not replace.

The short version
Keep Cursor if you want a general-purpose AI IDE. Add Dola if you want agents that can drive Unreal Editor: Blueprints, PIE and actor tools, Engine API lookup, and a local bridge to the project you have open.
We do not claim Dola writes better C++ than Cursor, or that it indexes “the entire project” in some magical way. Cursor is stronger as a daily multi-language editor. Dola is stronger inside Unreal.
- An Unreal Editor plugin with a local bridge (published builds are UE 5.7 today).
- Blueprint graph edits through live editor tools — compile and save from chat.
- Editor automation against the open level: spawn actors, PIE, materials by description.
- A desktop app besides VS Code, with chats and indexes designed to stay on disk.
- General repositories: web apps, tools, and languages outside Unreal.
- Being the editor you type in all day, with inline AI across many files.
- A mature IDE fork of VS Code, not a sidecar + plugin pair.
Cursor + Unreal MCP is a different stack
A common 2026 setup is Cursor (or Claude) plus a community or Epic MCP bridge so the IDE can call Unreal. Epic’s experimental MCP plugin is a 5.8 story. Dola’s published plugin builds are 5.7, desktop + local bridge — not that MCP plugin and not a ranking of “best MCP.”
Keep Cursor if you want the IDE. Add Dola if you want a packaged Unreal teammate instead of assembling MCP yourself. We do not claim Dola wins a fake scoreboard against Cursor + MCP.
Using both
GitHub Copilot is in the same general-coding category as Cursor: completions in many IDEs, not an Unreal Editor product.
A common split: Cursor (or VS Code) for generic source work, Dola when the task needs the live Unreal session. Dola also has its own VS Code extension if you do not want a second IDE.
Product depth: AI coding assistant for Unreal Engine. Setup: getting started with Dola. Pricing: plans and credits.
