The short answer
You can use an Unreal Engine AI assistant for free. Dola's desktop app and its Unreal Editor plugin cost nothing; bring your own model API key and every agent and tool is available. You pay your model provider directly, not us.
What the free way includes
- The desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux, and the Editor plugin for UE 5.7.
- All specialist agents: Blueprints, C++, levels, materials, UI, animation and more.
- Live editor actions through a local bridge, compile checks and Play in Editor checks.
- Your choice of provider: Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Groq, xAI, Mistral, Cerebras, or a custom or local endpoint.
Keeping the model bill low
- Use a smaller, cheaper model for small edits and a stronger one for multi-step features.
- Ask for one feature at a time; long open-ended requests use the most tokens.
- A local model costs nothing per request; expect it to struggle on large Blueprint changes.
When a plan makes sense
If you would rather not manage keys and provider bills, a plan gives you Dola-hosted models with monthly credits included. Start free either way: create an account and follow the getting started guide.
