How tools work
You never call a tool by name. Describe what you want in the Dola chat, in plain words, and Dola picks the tools for the job, runs them against your open project, and shows each step as it goes. These pages explain what each tool can do so you know what to ask for.
Tool categories (67 tools)
- Project knowledge11 toolsSearch and recall what is in your Unreal project: assets, Blueprints, levels, dependencies, and what you discussed in earlier chats.
- Blueprint editing10 toolsRead and change Blueprint graphs from chat: add and wire nodes, set variables and components, then compile and save in the live editor.
- Unreal Editor actions16 toolsDrive the open Unreal Editor in plain language: levels, assets, materials, animation, VFX, UI, audio, Sequencer, gameplay AI, and builds.
- Engine API reference5 toolsLook up Unreal Engine classes, functions, properties, and Blueprint nodes so code and graphs use APIs that really exist in your engine.
- Web research1 toolFind answers in Unreal Engine documentation and on the web, with sources, when a question goes beyond what is in your project.
- AI specialists12 toolsSpecialist agents for Blueprints, levels, materials, animation, VFX, UI, audio, Sequencer, gameplay AI, and the editor, each focused on one area.
- C++ source code2 toolsWrite and edit Unreal C++ in your project's Source folder, including classes, components, and reflection macros, while you build as usual.
- Modeling mode3 toolsBuild 3D models from chat in the studio inside the desktop app, add colour and materials, then export GLB or send the model to Unreal.
- Plans, checkpoints, and approvals3 toolsStay in control of bigger changes: plans you can review first, checkpoints, a view of what changed, and rollback of what Dola wrote.
- Playtesting and QA4 toolsCheck your game the way a tester would: Play in Editor sessions, screenshots, automation tests, performance traces, and animation recordings.
What you need
- The Dola desktop app, signed in, with your Unreal project attached.
- For anything that edits the project live: Unreal Editor open on that project with the Dola plugin enabled. See connect an Unreal project.
- Modeling tools run in the desktop app's Modeling mode and do not need Unreal. See Modeling mode.
- A model: your own provider API key (free) or a paid plan. See plans and credits.
Staying in control
- Ask for just a plan and nothing runs in Unreal until you approve it; build requests start right away and can be stopped.
- Checkpoints let you see what changed and roll back what Dola wrote in the editor, keeping your own edits.
- Risky editor actions, such as packaging, plugin changes, or force deletes, wait for your approval.
- Blueprint edits are compiled and saved so you can check the result in the editor.
Status labels
Live tools ship in the current app. WIP tools are in development and may change. Deprecated tools are being retired. The full list with live status is also on the tools catalog.
